riceworks Highlights Another Semi-Finalist for Show Us Your Goodness – Rett Syndrome Research Trust

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

On a daily basis, the Show Us Your Goodness campaign sponsored by riceworks Gourmet Brown Rice Crisps will highlight one of the 33 Semi-Finalists.

The following outlines one of the semi-finalists overview – Rett Syndrome Research Trust

Overview:
Rett Syndrome Research Trust (RSRT) is a nonprofit research organization exclusively focused on the development of treatments and cures for Rett Syndrome, one the most physically disabling of the autism spectrum disorders.

Primarily affecting little girls, Rett often strikes just after they have learned to walk and say a few words, and begins to drag their development backward.

Rett Syndrome may become the first reversible childhood neurological disorder. It is the goal of the Trust to deliver clinical trials of a novel treatment strategy that addresses the underlying genetic defect within five years.

To achieve this goal, RSRT ventures beyond the traditional scope of disease-specific foundations. The Trust will operate as a virtual biotechnology company outsourcing the various drug development steps to the best-qualified academic institutions or contract research organizations.

riceworks Welcomes the Rett Syndrome Research Trust to Show Us Your Goodness.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Today I listened to a highly emotional story from Syndi K. who is a mom to a young daughter with Rett Syndrome, one the most physically disabling of the autism spectrum disorders. Primarily affecting little girls, Rett often strikes just after they have learned to walk and say a few words, and begins to drag their development backward.

As Syndi describes the condition, “it’s combination of autism symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, and anxiety disorders…all in one little girl.”

Now imagine these symptoms vanishing … one by one. This is the work of the Rett Syndrome Research Trust. Check out the site: rsrt.org

This is an emotional Podcast. Thank you Syndi for sharing your touching story.
