The other day I had the pleasure to listen to an inspiring Podcast interview with Adrian Paul, the President and founder the PEACE Fund Charity. The words Protect, Educate and Aid Children Everywhere are the focus of The Peace Fund’s goals, hence the “Peace” name. Nice!

Here is a charity that focuses on small, under-funded and hard-working charities that are determined to make a positive difference to the lives of children living in extraordinarily difficult circumstances. In other words, the Peace Fund Charity gives support to a roster of other under-funded charities, such as “Teachers Across Borders”, and the “Relief Fund For Romania” to aid their goals to help orphaned and disadvantaged children.

BTW, you may recognize the name Adrian Paul. Best known for his six years as Duncan MacLeod in Highlander: The Series, Adrian has worked in front of the camera as an actor, as well as having directed and produced both films and television series.

Check out the Website and Podcast. And thank you Adrian for your effort to create and support such a wonderful cause. http://www.thepeacefund.org

Today I listened to a highly emotional story from Syndi K. who is a mom to a young daughter with Rett Syndrome, one the most physically disabling of the autism spectrum disorders. Primarily affecting little girls, Rett often strikes just after they have learned to walk and say a few words, and begins to drag their development backward.

As Syndi describes the condition, “it’s combination of autism symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, and anxiety disorders…all in one little girl.”

Now imagine these symptoms vanishing … one by one. This is the work of the Rett Syndrome Research Trust. Check out the site: rsrt.org

This is an emotional Podcast. Thank you Syndi for sharing your touching story.

Today I had a chance to listen to the Podcast of Tricia interviewing Gay Kirby, the Executive Director for The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, the fundraising arm for the Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC).

What a wonderful interview.

As I found out, The Rehabilitation Centre for Children (RCC), provides children with disabilities with services that enable them to live with independence and ability in their own homes, schools and communities. The foundation provides this service for children in the wide swath that includes Manitoba, Nunavut, parts of Saskatchewan and North West Ontario. Over 22,000 visits are made to RCC services each year.

Gay is enthusiastic about her involvement with the Foundation, and she spoke about the “happy tears” that often spill, especially when a child who has a disability gets a chance to realize a special dream. Like getting a chance to own an adapted bike that makes a kid feel like a kid. Check out the Podcast and the site. http://www.crf.mb.ca/

Thank you Gay for sharing your passion.

Received an update from Tricia Ryan, our Director of Marketing, who has been busy-busy on the phone. Last week Tricia interviewed more than 30 individuals who spoke about their favourite charity and their personal involvement in that charity. We then turned those interviews into Podcasts, which are downloadable and available on iTunes under the Show Us Your Goodness channel.

One of the individuals Tricia interviewed was Bob R, who spoke with great passion about his cause, the Toronto Distress Centres. Here is a United Way non-profit agency that provides round-the-clock response to those experiencing emotional distress or in need of crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

The Distress Centre agency has more than 600 volunteers at its three locations, and responds to more than 120,000 calls each year on their help-lines. Check it out. www.torontodistresscentre.com

Wow, that’s a lot of non-stop counsel for those in need. Thank you Bob R. for sharing your story and for being a champion for this wonderful community service.
